Audits are a another tool for taking a step backward and evaluating either what you have and want to change, or what other apps have that you want to emulate in your product.

Often by mapping out what exists in the current version of your app can expose issues that are less apparent when you engage with the app. This could include odd information architecture instances, inconsistencies in pattern usage, and disappearing affordances. Additionally, auditing similar applications (same space, similar goals, table-stakes features, etc.) can inform how to treat your feature. There is no reason to re-invent the wheel or re-educate your audience; accept audit insights as a leg up on your design.
